Empowering Lives Through Compassionate Support

Caring for the Homeless in Nassau County

The mission of the Coalition for the Homeless of Nassau County is to (1) reduce homelessness in Nassau County, Florida, (2) to coordinate with other organizations to help homeless persons receive the services they need, and (3) to create, fund, and maintain individual programs and ministries in furtherance of this objective.

The Coalition is nonsectarian and nonpartisan. We are a registered non-profit 501(c) charitable organization, incorporated in the state of Florida. Our Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers receive no compensation for their services- 100% of our income is from donations and 100% is applied to supporting our mission areas.

We provide several services to our homeless community. Operating from space generously provided by the Church of Christ, we operate the Day Drop-in Center (DDC) located at 1005 S. 14 th Street, Fernandina Beach, five days a week. Daily at the DDC, we provide a full, hot breakfast and a sack lunch to all who enter. Other services at the DDC include free showers and laundry service. The DDC also provides our clients with free showers and laundry services, mail delivery, and assistance with Florida I.D., birth certificates, and social security card applications.

During the winter months, we staff a Cold Night Shelter in space generously provided by the City of Fernandina Beach. Our Hand Up Program also offers additional services to include housing move-in cost assistance, relocation help, and drug rehabilitation.

LEVERAGING PARTNERSHIPS TO DELIVER THE BEST SERVICES

The Coalition coordinates with numerous like-minded organizations to offer the best services possible and to reduce duplication of effort to be more efficient. For example, the City of Fernandina Beach generously provides us space to operate the winter Cold Night Shelter. Other organizations offer services such as those providing evening meals, clothing, discounted medical services, food stamp assistance, food boxes, and more.

Together, We Can Change Lives

Thanks to the generous contributions from local organizations and people like you, and from the outstanding work of our staff and volunteers, we continue to make a positive impact on our homeless population in Nassau County. The numbers speak for themselves—in calendar year 2025, we accomplished the following:

  • Providing our homeless clients with nearly 200 hot meals and 200 lunch sacks per week. This translates to 10,400 meals and lunches a year.

  • Processing and delivering approximately 2,200 pieces of client mail per year.

  • Activating the Cold Night Shelter for 30 nights, and serving a total of approximately 480 guests

  • Completing nearly 150 requests for assistance, to include transportation of clients to places such as grocery stores, food banks, and hospitals; delivery of food boxes and supply items; assistance in the purchase of prescription medication, and assistance in filling out applications for birth certificates, Florida ID, and housing.

  • Accomplished the relocation of 15 clients to various parts of the country to stay with family, friends, or relatives

  • Provided move-in costs for 7 persons approved for apartment housing

The Coalition for the Homeless is funded entirely through donations from organizations and generous people like you. Unlike other non-profit organizations, our Board members and staff are all unpaid volunteers, so 100% of your donation is applied to our Mission. With your support, we can continue to provide crucial services such as the Cold Night Shelter and the Day Drop-in Center, which provides hot meals six days a week. Other programs available to our homeless population include relocation services, assistance with apartment move-in costs, and drug rehabilitation. Your donation will also help us expand our operations into the Westward area of Nassau County, which is currently greatly underserved. THANK YOU!
